Block party kicks off weekend events in Penticton

PENTICTON – Summer is expected to make a return with a forecast this weekend for sunny skies and warm temperatures, just in time for some outdoor events in Penticton and area.

The Summer Cabaret concert series, returns to Gyro Park on Friday, July 22, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This week's entertainment is provided by Rock Skool and Fluxx. On Saturday, the entertainment is provided by Impulse Response.

A 90s theme block party takes place on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the 200-block of Main Street. Live music and entertainment includes Cosmic Brew, DJ Shakes/Non-stop productions, hip hop performances and the Penticton Pistoleras Roller Derby and Pentagon Board Shop skate event.

Glow SUP Adventures presents a free outdoor family movie at Sudbury Beach on Skaha Lake on Friday. They will be showing The Sandlot. The movie starts after the block party ends at 8 p.m. The outdoor theatre is located near the parking lot at the beach. The beach concession will be open during the screening.

On Saturday, July 23, Tinhorn Creek presents Daniel Wesley at the Tinhorn Creek amphitheatre. Show starts at 7:30 p.m., tickets are $40.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
