Cruisin’ the Coast at 20: classic cars across coastal Miss

BILOXI, Miss. – Some of the classic car owners and fans in south Mississippi this week are staying in hotel rooms. Others are part of temporary camp cities. Fairl Morrell tells WLOX-TV (http://bit.ly/2dioPrx ) he has rented a spot north of Highway 90 for 10 years.

People began showing up Friday for the 20th Cruisin’ the Coast, which takes place across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It’s grown from a 3 1/2-day festival with 374 registered cars to eight days, and Mississippi’s largest event.

Official events began Sunday, with the last ending at 1 p.m. next Sunday.

News outlets report that officials expect the number of registered classic cars to beat last year’s record 7,639.

Chairman Woody Bailey tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/2dig6pl ) that another 1,000 to 2,000 classic car owners could show up without registering.
