Dead woman’s husband pleads for hit-and-run driver to come forward

VANCOUVER – A man whose wife was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Vancouver is pleading for the driver to come forward.

Nilo Tumanda says the hardest thing he ever had to do was tell his five-year-old daughter that her mom would never be coming home.

Leonida Jimenez Tumanda also left behind a 10-year-old daughter who is trying to come to terms with the fact that her mother was left to die on the road last Sunday night.

Tumanda was walking home from work when she was hit by a vehicle that did not stop.

Her husband’s pleas for the driver to do the right thing come as police in various Vancouver-area jurisdictions investigate a series of recent hit-and-run pedestrian fatalities and injuries.

Insp. Les Yeo of the Vancouver Police Department says 11 pedestrians have been killed on city streets so far this year and that he’s directed his officers to enhance enforcement around intersections and crosswalks.
