Canadian canoeist Mark Oldershaw named to Olympic team

OTTAWA – Mark Oldershaw has been named to Canada’s canoe-kayak team for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Oldershaw will compete in the men’s C1 1,000-metre canoe race in Rio. He won a bronze medal in the event at the 2012 London Games.

Oldershaw is the fifth Olympian in his family, and will be appearing in his third Games.

The native of Burlington, Ont., secured the spot in the C1 1,000 in Rio with a win in the discipline at the Pan American Canoe Sprint Championships last month in Gainesville, Fla.
