Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Niko Resources Ltd. (TSX:NKO). Oil and gas. Down half-a-cent, or 2.50 per cent, to 19.5 cents on 12.3 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Down four cents, or 2.48 per cent, to $1.57 on 5.9 million shares.

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Miner. Down 68 cents, or 9.05 per cent, to $6.83 on 5.3 million shares.

Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX:TCK.B). Miner. Down 25 cents, or three per cent, to $8.09 on five million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Down 35 cents, or 3.15 per cent, to $10.75 on 4.9 million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Down 75 cents, or 12.63 per cent, to $5.19 on 4.7 million shares.

Canadian Oil Sands Ltd. (TSX:COS). Oil and gas. Down 17 cents, or 1.71 per cent, to $9.77 on 3.9 million shares. The COS board advisedshareholders to reject Suncor Energy’s $4.3-billion hostile takeover offer, saying it exploits inside information about an oilsands mine partly owned by both companies. Suncor was down 50 cents, or 1.36 per cent, to $36.36 on 2.3 million shares.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (TSX:VRX). Pharmaceutical. Down $14.35, or 6.31 per cent, to $213.05 on 777,084 shares. Valeant says it may sell its neurology business as it adjusts to political and legal scrutiny over soaring drug prices. The Quebec-based company said it will look over the next 12 months to sell, spin off or privatize its neurology business — a shrinking part of its operations — as part of a “pragmatic” strategic shift to changing conditions.
