Shed collapses during prayers in Pakistan mosque killing 5

ISLAMABAD – A Pakistani police officer says five worshippers have been killed and five injured when a steel shed in the courtyard of a central Karachi mosque collapsed.

Senior officer Muqaddas Haider says the incident occurred when the mosque was overcrowded during prayers for the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

Doctor Rubina Hussain at the nearby Abbasi hospital confirmed that five people had died, and said that 15 injured worshippers had been brought to hospital from the Usman Ghani mosque.

Mosques in Pakistan create additional space for worshippers during Ramadan, a time of daylight fasting and prayer for Muslims.
