SACKVILLE, N.B. – Jonathan Heidebrecht’s foot carried St. FX to an AUS championship.

Heidebrecht kicked a 41-yard field goal with 45 seconds left in the fourth quarter to lift the X-Men to a 14-12 win over the Mount Allison Mounties to win the Atlantic conference’s Canadian university football title.

Hec Crighton finalist Ashton Dickson rushed for 154 yards for St. FX, while quarterback Tivon Cook completed 15-of-31 pass attempts for 249 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Ryan Lambert had three field goals and a rouge for Mount Allison, which also added a team safety.

The X-Men will face the Canada West champion UBC Thunderbirds in the Uteck Bowl on Sat. Nov. 21 with a spot in the Vanier Cup on the line.

CARABINS 18 ROUGE ET OR 16

QUEBEC CITY — Gabriel Parent rushed in a 35-yard touchdown in the third quarter to help lift the defending Vanier Cup champion Carabins to victory over Laval.

L-P Simoneau connected on field goals from 12, 15, and 22 yards for Montreal while also kicking two singles.

Rouge et Or quarterback Hugo Richard completed 26-of-41 passes for 325 yards and one touchdown but was intercepted twice. Richard also ran in a TD.

The Carabins will play the OUA champion Guelph Gryphons in the Mitchell Bowl next weekend in Guelph, Ont. The winner of that advances to the Vanier Cup.

LONDON, Ont. — Gabriel Ferraro hit a tiebreaking field goal in the fourth quarter, then added another as Guelph captured its first Yates Cup title since 1996 with a comeback victory over Western.

Trailing throughout the first three quarters, Guelph tied the score in the opening seconds of the fourth on a 36-yard touchdown reception by Jacob Scarfone.

Guelph quarterback James Roberts connected on 14-of-28 passes for 221 yards and one touchdown while running back Johnny Augustine had 108 yards on 19 carries.

Western quarterback Stevenson Bone, filling in for injured conference MVP Will Finch, completed 21 of 39 passes for 236 yards, and led the Mustangs with 85 yards on the ground on 16 carries. He also scored both Mustangs’ touchdowns.

THUNDERBIRDS 34 DINOS 26

CALGARY — Michael O’Connor threw two touchdown strikes to Marcus Davis to lead UBC to victory over the top-ranked Dinos for the Hardy Cup.

O’Connor was 27 of 40 passing for 374 yards and an interception to go along with his two TD tosses.

Running back Trevor Casey accounted for the other Thunderbirds’ touchdown while Quinn van Gylswyk was perfect on four field-goal attempts, including one from 46 yards out.

Calgary quarterback Andrew Buckley completed 31-of-43 passes for 447 yards and a touchdown. Running back Mercer Timmis had 111 yards on the ground and one score.
