Injured cyclist rescued on Myra Canyon trestles near Kelowna
KELOWNA – An injured mountain biker was rescued on the Kettle Valley Railway trails in the Myra Canyon above Kelowna yesterday afternoon.
The woman was riding on the trails when at around 2 p.m., Sept. 30, she fell at trestle #9 injuring her shoulder and possibly breaking her arm, according to a media release.
Kelowna Fire Department along with B.C. Ambulance Service and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue responded with a UTV Gator around 3:20 p.m. and the woman was extricated the five kilometers back to a waiting ambulance.
COSAR president and search manager Ephraim Nowak supervised the rescue.
“We decided that a ground response using ATVs was the best approach in this case,” Nowak says in the release. “The subject was located on the trail itself, but required transport to the nearest parking lot.”
This is the third rescue in the last week where all three agencies were involved.
“Each responding agency contributes a different set of expertise, and collaboration results in a successful outcome,” Nowak says in the release. “The recent rescues provide evidence that it is working.”
