KELOWNA – Residents that have properties greater than 1 hectare (2.47 acres) can apply for a permit through their local Fire Department Jurisdiction. The Kelowna Fire Department will start issuing Burn Permits for Kelowna residents on Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Burn Permits will be dated for Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 and burning will not be permitted for any reason before that. Once you have obtained an open burning permit, you must ensure that burning is allowed on the day you want to burn. Call the Regional Open Burning Information Line (toll free) at 1-855-262-2876 to check the Venting Index and Air Quality on the day you plan to burn.

Alternatives to burning include the free agricultural chipping program, wood chipping, free year-round yard waste drop-off at the landfill and curbside yard waste pickup.

Residents are reminded that there may be extra smoke visible during this time (October through April); however, if unintentional or wildfire is suspected, residents are encouraged to report it by calling 911.
