Rockets beat Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-3

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-3 on Wednesday night at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, snapping an early season three game losing skid for Kelowna.

Calvin Thurkauf scored twice and added an assist in a first star performance as the Rockets improved to 2-4-0-0 on the season, kicking off a stretch of three games in four nights in the WHL Central Division.

The Rockets scored five times in the third period to erase 2-1 and 3-2 Hurricanes’ leads with Thurkauf leading the way, netting the winning goal.

Tomas Soustal had a goal and an assist while Jordan Borstmayer, Gordie Ballhorn and Kole Lind also scored for the Rockets.

Nick Merkley played in his first game for the Rockets since being released from the Arizona Coyotes and had one assist.

Michael Herringer earned the win in net with the teams each firing 27 shots on net. Kelowna was 2-for-4 on the power play while allowing Lethbridge two goals on eight chances.

The Rockets continue its current road trip in Edmonton on Friday and will also play in Red Deer on Saturday.

Kelowna returns to Prospera Place on Friday, Oct. 14 when they host Saskatoon.
