British Army veteran reunited with lost medal with help from Calgary police

CALGARY – A British Army veteran has been reunited with his medal for serving in the Iraq war, thanks to help from police in Calgary.

Police got a call from Allan Marshall in Belfast, Ireland, in late October that he got tip that his medal was being sold online through Arctic Medals, a Calgary-based company.

Police say Marshall was honourably discharged in 2006 after serving with 1st Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

Shortly after his discharge, Marshall couldn’t find his 2003 Iraq Campaign Service Medal.

Calgary police investigated and found the medal had been purchased in good faith by Arctic Medals several years ago through an auction.

When officers notified the company’s owner, Arctic Medals gave the medal to police, who have sent it back to Marshall.

“I am over the moon to get my medal back after all this time, nearly 10 years,” Marshall said in a news release.

“This particular medal holds tremendous sentimental value as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth personally presented the medal to me after my operational tour of Iraq. I want to thank members of the Calgary Police Service and Arctic Medals for helping me recover my medal.”
