AC Milan friendly with lower division club Pro Patria suspended because of racist chants

BUSTO ARSIZIO, Italy – A friendly football match between AC Milan and lower division club Pro Patria has been suspended due to racist chants.

The game was first interrupted then suspended because of the chants directed at several Milan players, despite appeals to stop from the public address announcer.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng took off his shirt after repeated abuse and left the field with his Milan teammates.

Urby Emanuelson, Sulley Muntari and M’Baye Niang were also reportedly targeted.

Afterward, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said there needed to be a “signal” against racism, adding that there has been “enough incivility.”

Milan is preparing to return from the holiday break against Siena on Sunday.
