TORONTO – Toronto city councillor and Twitter phenomenon Norm Kelly has been named Canada’s Most Valuable Tweeter.
Kelly beat runner-up Justin Bieber by a margin of two-to-one, garnering more than 34,000 votes.
He also beat Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, teen idol Shawn Mendes and Montreal Canadiens player P.K. Subban in the official Twitter Canada poll.
The long-time councillor once served as a Liberal MP under former prime minister Pierre Trudeau — Justin’s father — and as deputy mayor under Rob Ford. But now, he’s better known among millenials for his Twitter presence.
Most famously, the 74-year-old involved himself in a feud between hip hop artist Meek Mill and Toronto rapper Drake, when he told Meek Mill that he was no longer welcome in Toronto. That tweet was shared more than 130,000 times.
Kelly now has more than 200,000 followers on Twitter.
