Lest we forget: UBC community remembers fallen soldiers

Each November students, faculty and staff at UBC Okanagan take a moment to remember Canada’s fallen soldiers at a special Remembrance Day service. The colour party from Kelowna’s Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, will be on hand to mark the event.

This is the 11th year the university has held a Remembrance Day event, which invites neighbouring schools, local residents and the entire campus community to honour Canada’s soldiers. The ceremony is a combination of traditions from UBC and the Legion.

Campus administrators, students, and an employee who is also a veteran, will speak briefly about the importance of Remembrance Day. Students will participate by reading In Flanders Fields, singing O Canada and laying wreaths. The traditional two minutes of silence, along with a bugle reveille and bagpipe lament will be part of the formal service.

When: Wednesday, November 9, starting at 10:45 a.m., reception to follow

Where: Courtyard, UBC’s Okanagan campus, Kelowna

After the formal service, the public is welcome to a reception in the Arts Building foyer. The reception provides a chance for the university community to mingle with the veterans and Legion members. The public is invited to attend this service. Pay parking is available on campus.
