West Kelowna spending big bucks on Phase One of Brown Road upgrade

WEST KELOWNA – District council has awarded the contract for Phase One of improvements to Brown Road between Main Street and the Gateway Project.

R & L Excavating of Kelowna gets the contract from the roadwork, just south of Bering Road. The contract is worth over $2.5 million.

The company will be making improvements to the road and repaving; creating parking areas; building sidewalks, curbs and gutters; landscaping and irrigation; street lights; and sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water main upgrades.

The total cost of the project is $3.1 million, which includes burying the power lines, design work, inspections and testing materials.

The councillors voted to get the funding from several accounts including the Reserves for Future Expenditures, Capital Reserves, Gas Tax Community Works Fund funding, Water, Sewer and Storm Sewer Reserves and savings from the Jim Lind Arena renovation project.

Work will start later this month. It should be finished by late November.
