Woman hit in downtown Kelowna crosswalk
KELOWNA – A pedestrian was taken to the hospital after she was struck by a pickup truck while walking through a crosswalk in downtown Kelowna this morning.
The woman, 40, sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries from the crash, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a release.
The preliminary police investigation shows she was walking east across Elliis Street when she was hit by a grey Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
O’Donaghey says the truck was turning left onto Ellis Street from the eastbound lanes of Leon Avenue. The pedestrian, reportedly in a marked crosswalk, and truck were entering the intersection on a green light.
The driver of the truck, a 35-year-old woman from Kelowna, remained on scene and is cooperating with police.
RCMP are asking anyone who witnessed this incident, and haven't yet talked to police, to contact Const. Greg Barnard at 250-762-3300.
