VANCOUVER – An 81-year-old man is Vancouver’s first traffic fatality of 2016.
Vancouver Police say weather conditions were foul at about 10:30 Thursday night when the man was hit while crossing a major Vancouver street in mid-block.
The victim suffered critical injuries and was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.
Investigators say the 48-year-old driver of the westbound car remained at the scene, and speed or alcohol are not believed to be factors.
In a separate crash, an unnamed 24-year-old Vernon, B.C., man has died after losing control of his pickup truck in that north Okanagan city.
RCMP say the victim was severely injured Wednesday when his pickup veered into a ditch off Highway 97, but a cause of the crash remains under investigation. (The Canadian Press, CKIZ)
