Kelowna Rockets edged in OT by Tigers in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HATE – The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Kelowna Rockets 8-7 in overtime on Tuesday night, Dec. 13, in Medicine Hat.

It was a good old fashioned shootout and another back and forth battle as the Rockets and Tigers scored in bunches.

The first period was quiet in comparison to the rest of the game. The Rockets trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes collecting a goal on a lucky bounce off of the stick of  Jake Kryski.

The second period opened the game up offensively. The Tigers scored two goals through the first 15 minutes of the frame putting the Rockets down 4-1. But the Rockets rallied back scoring three goals in the final five minutes of the period to draw even at 4-4. Goals came from Lind, Cal Foote (on his 18th birthday), and Jake Kryski for his second of the night.

The Rockets allowed two more early in the third period 22 seconds apart to pull the Tigers ahead 6-4. After the Rockets made a goaltender change and backup Brodan Salmond came into the Rockets net, the Rockets caught fire again. They tied the game 6-6, but it was short lived as the Tigers pulled ahead again, making it 7-6. But Braydyn Chizen scored late in the period to pull the game into overtime.

The Tigers scored at 2:09 of the OT period to end the Rockets comeback story.

The Rockets fall to 19-12-2-0.

Brodan Salmond falls to 4-5-0-0.

The Rockets are back in action on Friday night when they face the Red Deer Rebels.

Kelowna’s next home game is December 27th when they face off against rival club the Kamloops Blazers for their first game back from the Christmas Break.
