Image of Asia: Driving through the rain in India

In this photo by Channi Anand, a motorcyclist carrying a female passenger drives through rain in Jammu, India. The Meteorological Department declared the monsoon season began in southern India this week and said conditions were favourable for the seasonal rains to advance into more of the country. It predicted a wetter-than-normal monsoon this year after two years of deficient rainfall that caused severe drought. Rivers, lakes and dams have dried up in some western states and groundwater reservoirs are severely depleted.
