Gerrit van Soest and Caele Kassa of the Vernon Ski Club National Alpine Ski Championships

VERNON – February 7, 2017 –  Local alpine ski racers Gerrit van Soest and Caele Kassa of the Vernon Ski Club have earned their way to U16 Mackenzie Investments National Alpine Ski Championships 2017 in Ontario later this month.

Thunder Bay is hosting the first ever-Canadian National U16 Alpine Ski Championships. Currently van Soest is ranked 2nd in British Columbia while Kassa sits in 8th in the U16 age group per the Provincial Ranking System (PRS)

“We are extremely proud of both boys,” says SilverStar Managing Director Ken Derpak. “The dedication to their sport speaks volumes.” As token of ongoing support shown is Ken Derpak and Guy Paulsen of SilverStar Mountain Resort presenting the two top ranked skiers a commemorative picture and travel expense support for their upcoming races in Ontario February 20th -25th.
