Up to $1,500 for Kelowna neighbourhood projects

KELOWNA – Neighbourhood clean ups, boulevard beautifications, little free libraries – these are just some of the ways neighbours in Kelowna have come together to enhance their neighbourhoods with support from the City of Kelowna’s Neighbourhood Grant. Applications are now open for summer grant projects. Deadline to apply is Friday, March 3.

Through the City’s Strong Neighbourhoods Program and with support from the Central Okanagan Foundation, the Neighbourhood Grant provides up to $1,000 in matching funds to support resident-driven projects that foster neighbourhood connection and engagement. It is designed to empower residents and neighbourhood-based organizations to make their neighbourhoods even better places to live, work and play. In 2016, 15 neighbourhood grants were awarded, engaging more than 1,600 residents in leading or participating in neighbourhood enhancing projects.

In 2017 only, to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary, an additional $500 is available for projects that show support for one of the City’s Canada 150 themes, which include celebrating cultural diversity and freedom, honouring the history of our region and empowering youth to shape the community that they desire.
