CBC-TV to air Arctic environmental thriller ‘The Council’

TORONTO – An international thriller about the murder of an environmentalist and the fight over natural resources in the Canadian Arctic is headed to CBC-TV.

The public broadcaster says the series, which has the working title “The Council,” will debut with 10 episodes in the fall.

The show is from Emmy Award-winning showrunner and writer Rene Balcer of “Law & Order” fame, and Lark Productions and Keston International Productions.

Featured are two cops who probe the murder of a young woman near the Canadian hamlet of Resolute.

The investigation leads them to a global conspiracy.

Shooting will take place in multiple cities this summer.
