Ultra Music Festival weekend to bring thousands to Miami

MIAMI – Final preparations are under way for a massive music festival that’s bringing thousands of people to Miami this weekend.

The annual Ultra Music Festival kicks off Friday afternoon, taking over downtown’s Bayfront Park through Sunday.

Ray Martinez, a security chief at Ultra, told local news outlets they’re expecting anywhere from 165,000 to 170,000 people.

The festival, which started as a satellite event during Winter Music Conference, has become a destination for music fans from all over the world.

It will feature veteran acts Afrojack, Avicii, Carl Cox and Deadmau5.

Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat says there will be traffic reroutes. Officials are recommending the Metrorail and Metromover as the ideal mode for transportation.

Miami Fire Rescue Ignatius Carroll says fire rescue units will be placed throughout the event as well.
