Sports fields closed: need time to dry out
KELOWNA – The City’s sports fields will remain closed until early April and residents are reminded to stay off the fields until they are officially open for the spring season.
Sports fields need an appropriate amount of time to dry out and the grass needs to be actively growing to ensure quality turf and avoid divots and holes which can lead to player injuries. The fields are scheduled to open Saturday, April 8, weather permitting.
This is just a few days later than usual due to the late season snowfall.
For those on the hunt for a place to play in the meantime, there are four practice fields available in addition to the artificial turf sports field at Mission Recreation Park.
· Walrod Park
· Johnson Park
· M10 Practice area at Mission Recreation Park (area with goal on left off Gordon Dr. and Lexington Dr.)
· P9 Practice field at Parkinson Recreation Park
Teams can book a space through the City by calling 250-469-8504.
Park washrooms and water services will open on April 1.
