Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television taps new boss from Tribeca Film Institute

TORONTO – The organization that runs Canada’s biggest film and TV awards has chosen a new boss.

Beth Janson has been appointed chief executive officer of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, replacing outgoing CEO Helga Stephenson.

The Montreal native is the former executive director of the Tribeca Film Institute, where she was responsible for budget management, fundraising, public relations, human resources and program direction.

Before that, she was the programming director of the Newport International Film Festival and worked in the programming department of HBO Documentary Films.

As head of the academy, Janson will oversee its mandate to celebrate and promote homegrown film, television and digital media. Its marquee event is the annual Canadian Screen Awards, next taking place March 12, 2017.

Janson assumes the post on June 1.
