Messi on bench for Barcelona’s second-leg semifinal with Bayern Munich

BARCELONA, Spain – Barcelona has left top scorer Lionel Messi on the bench at the start of Wednesday’s Champions League semifinal with Bayern Munich.

Barcelona needs to overturn a 4-0 first-leg defeat to reach the final against Borussia Dortmund on May 25 at Wembley Stadium.

The Argentina forward hurt his right hamstring on April 2. Since then, he started in the defeat at Bayern and has missed three games, while coming off the bench in two more.

Messi has scored 58 goals in all competitions this season for Barcelona.
