Forest fires continue to burn in New Brunswick, two homes destroyed
SALISBURY, N.B. – Two forest fires continue to burn in northern and southern New Brunswick, including one that has destroyed at least a couple of homes.
The biggest fire has burned approximately 150 hectares in the Middlesex Road area near Salisbury.
Steve Benteau, a spokesman with the Department of Natural Resources, says neither fire was considered contained as of early today.
No injuries have been reported.
Charles Beaulieu, a fire prevention officer with the provincial government, says winds that died down overnight helped crews get the main part of the blaze near Salisbury under control.
However, Beaulieu says several spots flared up outside that area, which complicated matters.
He says firefighters are battling a smaller fire that has burned about 70 hectares in Kedgwick, about 300 kilometres north of Fredericton.
Beaulieu says crews expect to make good progress on that fire today.
