Deliberations resume in murder trial hinging on dying man’s blinks

CINCINNATI – Jurors will resume deliberations for a second day in an Ohio murder case hinging on whether a dying, paralyzed man identified his shooter by blinking his eyes.

Jurors are scheduled to start discussions again this morning after failing to reach a verdict Tuesday in the trial of 35-year-old Ricardo Woods of Cincinnati.

Woods is accused of shooting David Chandler in 2010.

Chandler was left paralyzed from the neck down and unable to speak before his death about two weeks later.

Prosecutors told jurors that Chandler clearly identified Woods by blinking his eyes in a video interview with police who said Chandler blinked three times for “yes” to identify Woods’ photo.

The defence says Chandler’s physical condition and the medication he was taking made his blinking inconsistent and unreliable.
