Evacuation order issued for Shuswap community

SALMON ARM – Residents in ten properties in the Silver Creek area were given an immediate evacuation order last night because of the potential hazards surrounding groundwater and slope instability.

The RCMP are helping the regional district with the execution of the order.

The order is in place for properties at 1605, 1615, 1618, 1626, 1629, 1635, 1648, 1652, 1655, and 1656 Salmon River Road.

According to the order issued April 22 at 9:30 p.m. by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, residents must leave immediately. Evacuees should take critical items like medicine, wallet and keys only if they are easily accessible, put pets in kennels on or leash and shouldn’t take more vehicles than absolutely necessary.
