Black family finds racist note in Florida hotel room

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Marriott is apologizing after an African-American family found a racist note that included the n-word in their Florida hotel room.

Father Frank Davis said they found the note when they checked into the Art Ovation Hotel boutique hotel in Sarasota on the Fourth of July. An internal investigation revealed the note was left by a previous hotel guest and was not directed at the family. It’s unclear why cleaning crews didn’t find the note.

Davis said his interactions with Marriott corporate officials have been positive. The hotel apologized and refunded the family their points and food and beverages, but said local hotel staff should have been more sympathetic when his 27-year-old son Michael first reported the incident.

Michael Davis posted the note on social media and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports he received an outpouring of support and some death threats.
