SUMMERLAND – A wellbeing check in Summerland last night by RCMP turned into an eight-hour standoff with a distraught man.
Police say they were called to a home in the Giants Head Road area in Summerland at about 9 p.m., May 15 to check on a distraught man.
The Southeast District Emergency Response Team was called, and with the help of a police crisis negotiator, a 41-year-old man left the home peacefully at about 5 a.m. today, May 16, according to an RCMP media release.
The man was taken to hospital for a medical assessment.
