Unlocked vehicle leads to purse theft and hundreds of dollars in debit card transactions
PENTICTON – Unlocked vehicles proved to be too enticing for thieves in Naramata and Penticton last week.
Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says an unlocked vehicle on Juniper Road in Naramata was entered and a purse containing identification was taken sometime overnight on June 1.
The empty purse was found on top of a garbage can, while a stolen debit card was used to make several hundred dollars in purchases in Penticton, using the tap feature.
Police are investigating surveillance footage of the transactions at various locations in a continuing investigation.
Also overnight on June 1, an unlocked vehicle on Barton Crescent yielded thieves Oakley and Ray Ban sunglasses and two laptops.
Police continue to investigate and once again urge residents not to leave valuables overnight in their vehicles.
