Person familiar with deal confirms D Streit agrees to 4-year, $21 million deal with Flyers

A person familiar with the deal confirms veteran defenceman Mark Streit has agreed to a four-year, $21 million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Flyers had not announced the move on Tuesday, a day after Canada’s TSN first reported the deal had been reached.

The move prevents Streit from entering free agency on July 5. And it comes less than a week after the Flyers acquired the 35-year-old in a trade with the New York Islanders.

The Flyers dealt minor-league forward Shane Harper and a fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft in exchange for the rights of the Islanders captain.

Streit is an offensive-minded defenceman, who has 65 goals and 288 points in 491 career games.
