Netflix supernatural series ‘Hemlock Grove’ renewed for second season

TORONTO – Netflix has renewed its original gothic horror thriller “Hemlock Grove” for a second season.

The online streaming service says 10 new episodes of the vampire-and-werewolf series will go into production later this year and premiere in 2014.

The hour-long series is shot in Toronto but depicts a Pennsylvania town reeling from the brutal killing of a teenage girl.

Famke Janssen stars as a seductive matriarch while Bill Skarsgard plays her son.

Netflix says Charles Eglee (“The Walking Dead,” “Dexter,” “The Shield”) will join season two as executive producer and showrunner.

“Hostel” writer-director Eli Roth is also executive producer of the series, which is based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name.

Roth says the worldwide fan response to the show that premiered in April has been “phenomenal.”

“Netflix members loved the potent combination of sexy monsters, mystery, and the dark family soap opera that ended with a huge twist, leaving audiences worldwide totally shocked,” he said in a statement.

“Season one was just a warm up for what we have in store for season two. Get ready to be scared in ways you never expected.”
