KAMLOOPS – A 24-year-old Kamloops man is in police custody after trying to steal a dirt bike around noon today, June 20.
The suspect’s identity is not given but a media release from RCMP says he is known to police.
He was arrested after Kamloops RCMP received a report of a suspicious circumstance in the Brocklehurst area.
“When the police officer arrived on scene, she saw a male riding a dirt bike that obviously trying to avoid being seen,” Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release. “The male soon abandoned the dirt bike and took off running. Other officers came to the area and the suspect was located.”
RCMP say the dirt bike was reported stolen while officers searched for the suspect.
A search of the man found a baton and knife, and police are recommending charges of possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
