Police seek witnesses to brazen daytime shooting in Polson Park

VERNON – Areas of Polson Park remain closed to the public today as police investigate an afternoon shooting that put a man in hospital.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 29, Vernon RCMP received several reports that someone had been shot in Polson Park, Cpl. Janelle Shoihet says in a media release.

Upon arrival, investigators found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He has since been transported to a local area hospital for treatment of what are believed to be serious but non life-threatening injuries, Shoihet says.

“The park was immediately closed and systematically evacuated to ensure public safety and to identify and speak with possible witnesses to this incident,” Shoihet says in the release.

An evidentiary search remains underway with assistance from the Integrated Police Dog Service.

“During this time areas of the park including the boardwalk, steps and walkway will remain inaccessible, while other areas of the park have re-opened,” Shoihet says.

Vernon RCMP with assistance from the Vernon RCMP General Investigations Section, are working to identify those responsible for this “brazen, daylight incident,” Shoihet says.

If you have information or were a witness to this crime, and have not already spoken to the RCMP, you are asked to call the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 and cite file # 2017-13984.
