PHOTOS: Firefighters, kids, dogs, goats, fire and scary tunnels this week

KAMLOOPS – It was a busy week in Kamloops that began with the long weekend, included the kids heading back to class and wrapped up with the opening of the infamous Tranquille Tunnels.

As the long weekend began the weed eating goats that became a regular sight in West Highlands Park moved to Logan Lake while the annual Kamloops and District Kennel Club dog show took over Centennial Park in Westsyde for four days of primping and parading.

In court this week, a rancher avoided jail and was instead fined for killing her neighbour's dog while an elderly cocaine dealer avoided jail time due to ailing health. Former city councillor Joe Leong pleaded not guilty to fraud, theft and breach of trust while a drunk driver was fined for running a check stop, just missing a cop and hitting a tree earlier this summer.

We followed Pacific Way students as they went back to school and then watched as RCMP and conservation officers tracked a young bear at Riverside Park.

Later in the week the new $4.74 million provincial training centre for B.C. Wildfire opened in Merritt and the Tranquille Tunnels opened to the public after several months of cleaning and preparation.
