Musician Steve Grand’s gay-themed music video finds success on YouTube

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Steve Grand was virtually unknown when his first music video was posted on YouTube just a week ago.

Now, the Chicago musician is on the brink of an all-American success story. His self-produced rock ballad, “All-American Boy,” had attracted some 400,000 views by last night. That’s nothing for a major record-company release. But that qualifies as “going viral” for a low-budget, do-it-yourself project with only word of mouth and internet buzz to promote it.

The 23-year-old Grand is openly gay, and the video portrays a possible romance between two men. But Grand says the appeal of the song is also universal, that unrequited loved is heartbreaking no matter what your sexual orientation.
