‘Despicable Me 2’ opens with $83.5 million weekend, stampeding over ‘The Lone Ranger’

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Disney’s “The Lone Ranger” got stampeded by the kind of movie the company built its reputation on: an animated crowd-pleaser.
