EVERETT – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Everett Silvertips 5-4 in overtime on Friday night, winning its fifth straight game to open the Western Hockey League season.
Cole Linaker scored the winner early in the overtime period in a back and forth game that saw several lead changes through the game.
Tyson Baillie scored twice for the Rockets his sixth and seventh goals of the season. Nick Merkley and Austin Glover also scored for the Rockets. Madison Bowey, Rourke Chartier and Kris Schmidli chipped in with a pair of assists apiece.
Jackson Whistle earned the win in the Rockets net with Kelowna outshooting Everett 33-28.
The Rockets are back in action Saturday night when they travel to Seattle to complete its two-game weekend.
Kelowna returns to Prospera Place on Tuesday night to host the Swift Current Broncos.
