Blue Jays’ Brandon Morrow out 6 weeks with entrapped radial nerve in forearm

TORONTO – Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow will miss the next six weeks after being diagnosed with a nerve injury in his right forearm.

Morrow, whose season was seemingly in doubt with right-arm soreness that doctors and trainers originally couldn’t pinpoint through MRIs, is dealing with an entrapped radial nerve.

The renowned Dr. James Andrews made the diagnosis Wednesday.

The 28-year-old is expected to begin a throwing program once soreness subsides. It was not clear if surgery was being considered.

General manager Alex Anthopoulos said Wednesday afternoon that he was not too optimistic about Morrow’s condition or when the right-handed starter might be able to return.

“I don’t know enough about the severity,” Anthopoulos said. “I just know that it’s not safe for him to go out there.”

Morrow last pitched for the Blue Jays on May 28 when he left after two innings. He started the season No. 2 in Toronto’s rotation, going 2-3 with a 5.63 ERA in 10 starts.
