Authority issues health alert over practice of illegal B.C. dentist

VANCOUVER – The Fraser Health Authority has issued a health alert to about 1,500 patients who may have used the services of an illegal dentist.

The authority is recommending that anyone who was treated by Tung Sheng Wu, also known as David Wu, get tested for HIV and Hepatitis B and C.

Wu’s Burnaby, B.C., practice was discovered after the College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. says it sent a private investigator to a home to conduct surveillance.

The college says it moved in and seized a significant amount of dental equipment from the home, which may not have been cleaned or sterilized properly and didn’t meet with Health Canada standards.

Jerome Marburg, the registrar of the college, says Wu was neither licensed nor competent to practice dentistry.

Marburg says those who received treatment should visit a real dentist to have any unsafe materials Wu may have used removed and get proper treatment.
