Israel: Palestinian killed after attempted police stabbing

JERUSALEM – Israeli police say forces shot dead a Palestinian woman after she tried to stab a police officer at a West Bank checkpoint.

Spokeswoman Luba Samri says on Monday the woman approached the checkpoint with a knife. An officer opened fire, killing the woman, who was not immediately identified.

The incident was the latest in eight months of Israeli-Palestinian violence. Some 28 Israelis and two Americans have been killed in that period. Around 200 Palestinians have been killed, most said by Israel to have been attackers and the rest killed in clashes with Israeli forces.

The attacks have been less frequent in recent weeks, but have not entirely stopped.
