Manitoba Conservative MP Merv Tweed, Brandon-Souris, says he will resign Aug. 31

BRANDON, Man. – The Conservative MP for Brandon-Souris says he will resign his seat at the end of the month.

Merv Tweed says he wants to pursue opportunities in the private sector.

Tweed, 58, was first elected an MP in 2004 and was re-elected in 2006, 2008 and 2011.

Tweed also served three terms as a Progressive Conservative member of the Manitoba legislature.

Early in his career Tweed was a municipal councillor and deputy reeve for the Rural Municipality of Brenda, Man.
