Strawn, Lohner share lead in Canadian senior men’s golf championship

RED DEER, Alta. – Two American golfers share the lead after Tuesday’s first round of the Canadian senior men’s golf championship.

Rusty Strawn of McDonough, Ga., and Mike Lohner of Southlake, Texas, both shot 3-under 69s. Only six players in the field of 156 finished under par at Red Deer Golf and Country Club.

Strawn, fresh off a victory at last week’s U.S. Senior Amateur Championship in Marion, Mass., has three titles this season and is looking to make Red Deer No. 4. Strawn’s opening round included two birdies and an eagle, while Lohner had three bogeys and six birdies.

Grant Lee and Ken Griffith, both of Red Deer, Dave Terry of Langley, B.C., and Neil MacLeod of Burnaby, B.C., are all tied for third at 1-under.

Defending champion Darren Ritchie of Quispamsis, N.B., is tied four ninth, four strokes back of the lead.
