Doctors say NHL owners too complacent of violence
CALGARY – Canada’s doctors say NHL owners are too accepting of violence in hockey.
Two-thirds of delegates at a Canadian Medical Association meeting in Calgary have voted to — quote — “condemn the complacency” ofthe owners.
New association president Dr. Louis Francescutti (fran-seh-SKUH’-tee) says he has seen too many young hockey players brought into his emergency room with serious injuries.
He says something needs to be done to protect athletes.
One doctor from Quebec suggested owners have a financial interest in tolerating violence.
Doctors also voted to call on provinces to restrict the sales of energy drinks to children and adolescents.
