TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Gov. Rick Scott has been a cheerleader for President Donald Trump but hasn’t been as vocal with his support since deciding to run for the U.S. Senate.

The two-term Republican governor has split with Trump on issues and won’t even say if he thinks Trump is doing a good job. Scott is leaving office in early 2019 because of term limits. He’s trying to deny U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson a fourth term in office.

Brian Ballard, a top GOP fundraiser who knows both Trump and Scott, says Scott has his “own brand” and can afford to disagree with Trump

But other political strategists say Scott’s past strong support for Trump could hurt him if the fall election centres too much on the president.
