RCMP confirm child under 12 responsible in 6-year-old’s death; can’t be charged

REGINA – RCMP have confirmed that a child under 12 is responsible for the death of a six-year-old boy on a Saskatchewan reserve.

Staff Sgt. Larry Brost (BROHST) says the child cannot be charged because of his age.

He says the child is known to police, but the two children did not know each other.

A Social Services spokeswoman says the child is in the care of the ministry.

Andrea Brittin says the department will focus on his treatment and on the safety of the community.

Lee Bonneau died in hospital from injuries that police have said were consistent with an assault.
