Victoria police investigate theft of carved mask

VICTORIA – Police in Victoria are asking for the public’s help after someone walked away from a store carrying an expensive carved mask.

The theft happened last month in downtown Victoria, though police aren’t naming the business involved.

A news release says the mask was stolen Aug. 16, when someone simply walked out with it.

Police say they have a strong suspect in the case, but they are asking for the public’s help to locate the mask itself.

Victoria police have distributed a photograph of a what they are describing as a similar mask, which has white with black and red markings.

The mask is valued at about $1,600 and is part of a pair of similar masks.
