Messi injured in Barcelona’s match at Almeria, 3 days from Champions League game at Celtic

ALMERIA, Spain – Lionel Messi has been substituted after scoring in Barcelona’s match at Almeria on Saturday following a right leg injury.

The club said on its official Twitter account that “Messi has a muscle injury in his right thigh” and that he would undergo more tests on Sunday.

Barcelona plays at Celtic on Tuesday in the Champions League.

Messi gave Barcelona a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 21st minute. He asked to be substituted after making a long sprint to pressure the goalkeeper.

He then walked over to speak with coach Gerard Martino.

Messi walked off the pitch in the 29th minute, with Xavi Hernandez replacing him.

Messi missed the second round of this season after bruising his left thigh. The Argentina forward missed several games at the end of last season with a right hamstring pull.
